Our Reality

Ahmedabad ranks among the world's least climate-resilient cities, shaped by its proximity to the Tropic of Cancer and a long history of climate exposure. Rapid urbanisation, shifting weather patterns, and growing pressure on water and infrastructure have only added to that vulnerability, placing the city firmly among the urban centers most exposed to a changing climate.

Yet Ahmedabad is also a city that acts. It was among the first in India to design a dedicated Heat Action Plan — a model that has since informed climate response strategies across other Indian cities. That legacy of early, practical action is exactly what Ahmedabad Climate Action Week is built to carry forward, turning a single success into a broader, citywide movement for climate resilience.

Building Ground-Up Resilience

Ahmedabad Climate Action Week (ACAW), taking place 8–14 January 2027, marks Ahmedabad's first platform dedicated to catalyzing local climate action. Anchored in the city's own experience of extreme heat and rapid urban change, ACAW brings together citizens, institutions, and local innovators to build climate resilience from the ground up.

The week mobilises local actors around four interconnected pillars — Collective Intelligence, Heat Action, Localized Climate Finance, and Climate Education — reimagining climate solutions as rooted in Ahmedabad's own realities, and scalable across cities of the Global South.
